Thomas Winter grew up In Vallejo on the San Francisco Bay and graduated with a degree in architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1973. From 1970 to 1972 he studied architecture and photography at the Danish Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He participated in the 1980 Ansel Adams Yosemite and the 1985 Owens Valley Workshops. He is also exploring the use of alternate processes including special ink sets enabling split-tone prints and printing on vellum with applied metal leaf.
He has images in private collections and exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography and in their permanent collection; the Center for Photographic Art, Carmel; Feature Shoot Posters, NYC; Clamp Art Gallery, NYC; FotoForum Santa F; Southeast Center for Photography; Rogue Valley Art Center, Oregon, and Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, Sacramento.
